TBWG sawadi
-
If you like horses... I know some people who love horses - some BBQ'ed, some fried with a bit of garlic and then they drink Archa. sick1
But tastes differ right?
-
I didn't forgot ARCHA just really didn't came into my mind that somebody really like to drink this beer.
It reminds me,when I repaired our House I gave the workers "Bonus" from time to time/(alcohol..what do you think?!.... ).. I gave them CHANG of course but sometimes they made a joke on ARCHA beer as its too low class..so 1 day I bought also CHANGE and 1 bottle of ARCHA to understand what's so funny about ARCHA.. well after taste this beer I knew exactly what was all about, couldn't drink it even, just spitted it out..
Ever since then I . . . not eat fried horses?......... confused2
-
Well if I am absolutely honest my bestest favorite is Lao Beer tonguebar2 but in the absence of that it's Archa! wackobar Do I take it that everyone else thinks it's Horse p**s?

You said it. I only thought it. But still....it's 2 to 1 and you can't argue with statistics. nowinkbar

What's that old saying Lies, Damn Lie's and statistic's. party12
TBWG sawadi
-
:o Now who gone and messed up the statistics with farang beer? Aah well. 42.6% of all staistics are made up on the spot anyway. I'm just happy we can use all those beer smileys now laughbar.
-
Hi Lourens
It's not farang beer it's Lao Beer which is my top favourite... so imported! rolleyesbar
TBWG sawadi
-
If we must disregard imported beer, I suppose its got to be Draft Leo for me.
Never tried Lao Dark so if we include imported beers available here, its got to be Haufbrau Dark Beer smilebar
But truth be known, I will drink any beer even Archa! party16

When I first came to LIVE in Thailand I wasn't a big fan of beer but good whisky, however Isaan culture got me.. confused3 I first started with Singha but then I got used to the Chang taste, don't know why but its just taste better..
party15
-
I started too with Singha cos it was a known brand (Used to drink it in Jim Thompson pubs in UK). Gone off it now sick1. Never liked Chang, it tastes like its from a chang. cheapie Archa is bearable party15 but Leo is good (for me anyways) party4
Anyone know where I can get to try Lao Dark locally???
Dave
-
My favourite in Thailand is 'Tiger',if that's not available then 'Chang'
-
Now you got Tiger also.. ;)
-
Now you got Tiger also.. ;)
Cheers...........The only problem up here is I can only get it from Big C & Makro's,no local wholesalers stock it.
-
I also like Carlsberg but its not available in Thailand for some reason..
Just a nice beer I used to drink.. cool1
I think I'm not too selective with beer, only humm..humm..archa is not acceptable/drinkable for me but any other beer will do the job..I think party12
With whisky its different,to enjoy whisky for me its only the higher level whisky brands..
The low class whisky (100 pipers,Master-Bland,etc etc...) is drinkable but only for get drunk not to enjoy the drink itself. thought-I do get drunk from any whisky.. wackobar
Once I tried to drink "Lao-Kao" in the wife's village but smelling it only made me drunk..
not for me..sorry.. hehe.. jumping6
BTW-
Did you know the Buriramians students have their own small places/bars where they mostly drink "lao-kao yao deng" ("lao-kao"/rice whisky with some kind of herb that makes the whisky red color) um... nice way to pass the exams periods.. confused5
-
I see "chang" beer is still yet no.1 in Buriram !! wiiiiiiwaaaa...... party16 party15
-
LEO is the best beer in Thailand, no discussion about that, number two is the Lao Kao (wiskey), if you want a complete black out you must drink a bottle of this.
-
Now you got Tiger also.. ;)
I think you should add Archa even if it just so TMWG can confirm he drinks that s***t. We will have to wait a while, cos he is off drinking river/sea water again somewhere.
Dave
-
DONE! party4
-
DONE! party4
Thanks
Now we will all know when the Tall Man get home after his safari. The pole will be :-
ARCHA 7.7% and no more jumping8 wackobar :D

Secrets Bar off Wa*king Street love3 sells draft Singha for only 40b and its quite a classy gaf too. Well until I went in there earlier this week party3
-
I've tried a few beers in Thailand, and like my food I can probably drink most beers but when in Thailand I prefer Chang. For what ever reason Chang tastes the best.
-
Definitely LEO. Smoother than Singha and don't have to develop taste for Chang. I tried Chang in Australia. hmmmmmmmmmm.... How can I say this? It tasted very intersting. BTW...It was the cheapest Thai beer in Aus.
-

I agree Asahi is very good,& very good value at the few bars in Pattaya that sell it......Le Katai sell it at only 75 baht per pint,& Maggie Mays it is 90 baht per pint, both from the keg

Sorry to disagree,I've used Secrets pretty often since it opened....The only draught beer it has ever sold is Tiger, initially it was 50 baht but went up to 60 baht over a year ago!!!!

My favourite is Beer Lao, but since it far and few between to find {have to go to Buriram or Korat}.....I stick to the old standby - Beer Leo. Better taste than Singha & Chang {which isn't 100% beer}. As some of the imported beers are satisfying, they naturally tend to be more expensive for the regular beer drinker to partake. If I could find a decent supply of Chang Import....I'd take that - Chang domestic and Chang Import aren't even close to being brother beers.

I have something like 10 bottles of Beer Lao left, you can come and take it from our office.

It's the travel, you see. If any of the good denizens in Surin are aware of such locales that sell Beer Lao, speak up!!! A recall, a couple of years ago, the good folks at Beer Lao attempted to sell their product in bulk to anyone that wanted it - folks in the boondocks. 800 number, order, and it would be delivered - COD!! I don't know if they're doing this anymore...what with their delivering operations being more advanced, as there is quite the demand for Beer Lao amongst foreign-types.

I agree, there are much better Dutch&Belgium beer around but not here.
Norbie of N&N Int Restaurant in Surin are doing large tins of Marstons Pedigree British Ale for 55b a tin during happy hours!
Now thats a bargain for a good beer!
-
It's quite unfortunate that we have to go far and wide, and in most cases, specialty establishments to find decent European and British beers/ales of the sort.....
-
I've just tried Asahi beer, nice beer. party4
-
I will try it today.
super dry beer is good. me think.............. confused1 party4
-
MMMMMMM....BEER....Cheers laughbar

-
Isaan Beer has been discontinued
-
I always use the Army rating system:
1. Is it free?
2. Is it cold?
Works for me.
-
Anyone tried the new offering from Singha...........'U' Beer.......589 a box in Makros
-
Anyone noticed the drop in the strength of CHANG from 5.2% to 5%?
-
Hey Nookie, that "U" beer is rubbish, only cheap because it is Nasty. sick1
-
Only one beer for me: LEO!
Ice cold!
:-)
-
I was in Tops the other day and found Beer Lao Gold. Had not seen before so I bought a bottle. I was not impressed. I will stick with Lao Dark.
-

I could have told you that..........very similar to the ISAAN BEER they tried in 2010.....vanished after a year
-
Tiger
-
I was in Big C the other day and saw a new beer, Huntsman Cloudy Wheat Beer 4% alcohol. It's made in Thailand and costs about 55 baht per can. Not bad especially when I added some home grown lemon.
-
Makro seems to be having some specials on beers. They had Asahi for less than 600 baht a case (normally close to 900), Korbinian for 80 baht (normally about 100 baht more), and Kirin beer for about 50 baht. Plus various others, so if you want to diversify this is a chance to save some baht.
-
Would not want to buy a case of something I had not tried before, regardless of the price
-

The Asahi was the only case I saw on sale, all others were individual bottles, Asahi is a common beer an individual bottle can be obtained at Tops. Think Makro has about 50 different beers available with maybe 10 on these on sale. It appeared to me that different beers were on sale from yesterday than the week before.
-
Speckled Hen, London Pride, Directors, Bass, Porter, Harvey's.
Real beers.
The Thai stuff is, in general, poorly brewed lager.
Only really drinkable when extremely cold when the taste becomes drinkable.
-
Whether it?s good or bad I?ve got used to Leo so I just stick with that now.
-

Each and to their own. Chang for me. If I go somewhere and they only have Leo and Singha, I don't bother.

I don't usually drink alcohol ........... but if I want to wake up the next day felling like shit then 10 small bottles of any type of beer normally does the trick party12

Anyone noticed the drop in the strength of CHANG from 5.2% to 5%?
Did anyone notice the increase in strength of Singha Light from 3.5% to 4.5%.
So close to regular Singha, what's the point?
Speckled Hen, London Pride, Directors, Bass, Porter, Harvey's.
And to the north Theakstons, Marston Owd Rodger, Ruddles County, many more.
Slight deviation from topic but I love memory lane.
