WiNet.

Can ping sites, but not able to open any of them.

Tried a different (spare) router but same problem.

Have your wife call your local TOT office and report the problem. If its something they can take care of the office you will be ok but if they have to send a tech out I wish you luck as this is Friday and they well be closed until Monday.

already done, but NO high hopes for them reporting back

Steps already under taken, before I posted here:

So that's why I posted here to see if other members (in the Buriram area) have the same problem

Edit: It really seems a routing problem, as some Thai sites can open but VERY slow, sites from abroad impossible to open. However the site TOT.CO.TH will not open ;)

  • Rebooted Router

  • Called CallCentre

Good chance it just may be you. TOT is known for this and getting them off their ass is next to impossible.

Exactly, but unfortunately TOT WiNet is the only option here, except for 3G of course.

In another village, there are 3BB posters but I think they have the same problem as other members here, and they will only connect you if 5+ people subscribe and I don't see that happen (when they finally arrive) in our village.

Aah oke 49THB 3G per day it is till TOT "fixes" it.

555555 it seems calling them helped as I am typing this via my iPad on my TOT connection ;)

Let's wait and see how long it lasts 55555

We had both TOT and 3BB.  TOT was so intermittent that we dropped them.  All the internet shops in our village use 3BB because of the issue with TOT.

I know that doesn't help your situation, but just letting you know of the long standing issue with TOT.

And funny, as I tried to post this my 3BB service had a hiccup and would not respond, go the 3BB router page.  LOL

Thx.

If 3BB finally arrives in the village, I will NOT drop TOT, but keep them as a Backup.

When I lived in Pattaya I also had 2 lines (both 3BB and TOT) and in case 3BB had a problem, I could easily switch to TOT and v.v., and (touch wood) they never had outages at the same time fortunately ;)

Happens to me regularly. Its not you or your computer ( as long as you haven't changed any setting ) it's TOT, although they will never admit it ;)

Try going into your adaptor settings and change your DNS to Google ..it may help :)

I do it way and way easier.

A program called "DNSJUmper" link:http://www.sordum.org/7952/dns-jumper-v2-0/

This will find the fastest DNS for you and you can apply the settings, without doing it manually

Try removing DNS Jumpers settings and use a standard public DNS then ( its worth a go ) but TBO I still think TOT is the problem as they are well known for cutting back International Bandwidth as much as they can to save money !!
Even though when taking a speed test you may think you are getting the speeds they have promised  but the Bandwidth can be so small with TOT that even with good speeds you can't connect to the International site you want  :(

This morning even changing DNS didn't help.

I could PING sites but not access them and a Tracert would fail, so there clearly was a routing problem within TOT

DNSJumper has Public DNS Servers (Google for example) (see screenshot)

It doesn't help you today but for the future it may be worth checking out CAT fibre optic. 2 yrs ago our only option was the 25m tower and Wi-net. When that went Tits Up and we spoke to CAT like you I was dubious that we would find another 4 villagers wanting to sign up. In the event we got 5 in a day all of which are now connected. Additionally a further 3 have contacted CAT direct requesting connection after seeing the line being hung. Only been a week but so far the service has been good and reliable.

Dear Freddy !!

Nothing here is available except for TOT WiNet, CAT most certainly isn't available, 3BB is coming but when that is the question, they are already advertising in the next (big) village. The cables aren't in place yet as they (3BB, CAT or TOT) have to bridge a gap between villages (without any buildings/houses) of at least 2-3 kms and I don't see that happening very soon, as there won't be many subscribers in our village.

I am stuck with Tot WiNet or 3G no other alternatives for the distant future unfortunately :(

The outage today lasted a couple of hours and more then happy to use 3G in the meantime (49THB per day unlimited however speed is a max 256Kbps), but it's absolutely useless for iPTV.

Now the power is out in the whole village 55555

Edit: Time to get a Genset ;)

I guess we've been lucky with TOT (ADSL).  We had it hooked up at the in-law's while building our place, and moved it over to our place 1.5 years ago.

We had the router blow twice during bad thunder storms - the second time on a Friday night - which they replaced on Monday. I bought and configured a second router that we could drop in if we ever lose one again on a weekend.

The only time we actually lost the TOT signal was for a couple days when they were widening hwy 24 and had to re-route the lines.  We used AIS 3G until that was sorted.

Our only real problem with it is waiting a few minutes for it to reconnect after one of the many short PEA power outages during the rainy season.  Other than that it's fine for streaming videos or anything else we do, and We've got over 10 devices connected to it constantly.

Hi KhunG,

what speed do you get with your TOT Adsl ?

We are limited to a max of 10 Mb, unfortunately no higher speeds available (at the moment) for WiNet.

When it's working I don't have any problems streaming iPTV, we watch mainly UKTV/ThaiExpat as iLikeHD /Kodi and the sorts are buffering (sometimes) so it's sometimes unwatchable.

We only have 3 PC's, 1 NUC, 1 Printer and couple of phones and iPads connected, but they aren't using the iNet all at the same time fortunately, so it works for us.

Hi Mike,

We're on the 10MB limit, too, but it's sufficient.  I haven't checked to see if we could get a faster plan.

We've got a couple smart tvs, several pcs, tablets, cellphones, a printer, a VOIP box, a wii u and a wii connected, but you're right - they're not all moving a lot of data at once.  We usually have a couple streaming videos and some non-streaming access happening at once.

The youngest is happy watching YouTube baby einstein type stuff, and we watch some of the online news channels and recently switched to iflix for our entertainment streaming needs, since notflix finally shut down our access to the US catalog.

While we were using AIS 3G, we were getting about 15MB down, but with a 1.5GB cap that can go fast.  I notice when we visit Buriram city, it clocks in at 40MB+ down on their 4G network.

Edit: It makes me realize the multi GB speeds we were getting on cable in the US wasn't really doing anything but making downloads fast - if the site your downloading from also supports the speed.

Thanks for the heads up with iFlix thumbup

For those with Android Boxes try

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raddixcore.livestreaming&hl=en  ........ Many Indian Channels BUT a good selection of  UK/US TV and Sports Channels

http://terrariumtv.com  .........  For Movies and TV Shows

And if you dont mind clicking on a few crosses to get rid of adds then this Sports APK is recommended by Sofa_King ;) . Go to this Facebook Page and click on Use App to download the APK ...   https://www.facebook.com/cs.sports.tv/?fref=ts&__mref=message_bubble

Who needs ilikeHD when these are for free
