Title: Big Bike Gear
Post by: Freddy on September 25, 2018, 10:30:39 PM
Big Bike Riders.
Guys,  anywhere in Buriram have a decent selection of Summer Mesh motorcycle jackets with elbow, shoulder, back pads. Appreciate mesh jackets don't offer the best protection but leather is just to hot.

I know many people like to have a "recognized brand" jacket / gloves etc etc .... but I rate the Komine jackets.

I have used my jk006 for the last 2 riding "seasons". Probably more than 25K Kl. You will get wet in a downpour due to the mesh, but they do dry out quite quickly.

I have washed mine at least 6 times (take out the armor inserts first) in the washing machine. Comes out like new.

Touring season is just about to kick off again, and I will be using mine again for the third year.

Ordered one of Alpinestars by telephone in my homecountry....got a 21 % discount on the price , because of export rules. ( not having to pay VAT )..can do it online too and it got delivered at my home without any problems.....That is only possible if you know what size you want exactly..but hey great quality for years to come...price turned out lower that what i would've paid in Bangkok in a store...

No mate, not worried about branding at all. Just want something functional that gives a little protection, limited with mesh I know but something is better than nothing.m

Somnat. Checked out the Komine jackets on line. Lots of choice there both style and price range. Just worried about the sizing. I'm gonna hold till the Moto GP and hopefully they will have a stand there so I can try before I buy.
Found some decent boots at the Paddock in Bangkok. I bought my helmet from there. Been a challenge to find the casual style that look OK with jeans when not on the bike but hopefully they will fit when they arrive.
That just leaves gloves. Just want lightweight mesh and leather without all the fancy stripes and neon. Hard to find here.

These ones are still OK after 2 years - Scoyco MC24 - Available from "love big bike" for just 400 Baht.

https://www.lovebigbike.com/%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%84%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%B2/%E0%B8%96%E0%B8%B8%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%B7%E0%B8%AD-scoyco-mc24/

Lazada also have some that ship from overseas, but closer to 700 Baht

If I can find out where M Speed shop went I will let you know. He was stocking them last time I was in there.

Now on a Suzuki V Strom.

Honda CB 500 X before that Freddy.

Should think the Suzukis quite quick.
I've got a Honda Rebel 500 bit just treated myself to a Triumph. Can't decide if I should keep the rebel as a runaround or sell it,

That's a bargain Freddy. I am pretty sure I payed close to 3K for mine.

I really enjoyed my 500X but sometimes struggled to keep up with the "Big Boys" when on tour.

The V strom is more than adequate for the sort of riding we do.

Always had a soft spot for Triumphs. Which one did you get?

If you see me coming Woody.

On subject of bike gear for anyone interested. I have recently purchased a helmet and then some casual trainer style riding boots from the Paddock in Bamgkok. Truly excellent service. email enquiries answered promptly, next day delivery after bank transfer, both items 100% genuine and reasonable prices considering both were imported items.
The helmet is a Shoei and I believe the Paddock are one of very few authorised Shoei dealers in Thailand. the boots are Style Martin which have been around in the USA for some 40yrs and make riding boots/shoes that look like regular footwear. Toe and ankle steel reinforcement, breathable leather,  waterproof etc but casual style that can be worn with jeans when off the bike.
Has been hard to find here until I came across The Paddock.

Correction on the above Post.
Style Martin motorcycle boots are actually an Italian company started in 1979. I'd assumed they were American as my Uncle who lives in California used to wear them. Not so. He must have had more money than I thought.

Good to hear you got good service from them.
Did you check the manufacture date of your helmet ?
I returned one that was expired and they weren?t going to refund until i turned up in person at their  shop, which i duly did ,and
I also got all my travel expences back .

Hi Freddy
That happened only once with paddock, and they do have a lot of good gear along with suspect regional gear.
Only caveat for good quality helmets here is that there made for Asian heads, interior padding wise,,although with all the people riding without lids on that statement might be misleading. scatter
I have seen hemet manufacturers at the bike shows doing fittings ,Shoei were the brand if i recall at the motorshow this year.
My personal preferance is AGV,which i used to get through RK rider but now deal direct with the BKK supplier, saves a few thousand.
For gloves ,boots ,etc ,sizing is a problem so I normally bring mine in,which is funny as most of the big names make their stuff in the surrounding countries.
Bangkok has loads of shops selling known gear now with also the Japanese gear, and Buriram has a few ,you just have to weed out the local scooter rubbish.
Cheers

Yep. TBH I gave up with Buriram, I'm more cruiser style and most of the quality helmets available locally are more street/racer style.
The Shoei I got from Paddock fits great. Gloves I'll have a look at the GP so I can try on but if not will get from Triumph, they have a good range and I've got to go there for a service in a couple of weeks.
Jacket, I just want a simple summer mesh so again will have a look at the GP so I can try on.
Safety first I know but really hard with the heat here to get decent protection without dying of heat stroke every time I stop at lights.

Just had a look at the Panda website. Excellent range of Rev'It jackets and gloves. Have asked if they are attending the Moto GP and to bring some specific items for me to try on.

For what it is worth.

Here are some links of motorcycle apparel shops that might be of interest:

- Panda Rider
-- http://www.pandarider.com/Panda/products.htm
-- http://www.pandarider.com/Panda/contact.htm
-- https://www.facebook.com/PandaRiderDotCom/
--- NOTES: Siam is the owner and speaks English very well.  The store has plenty of staff members but Siam is the only one to speak with because he knows all of his products very well and knows his stock status.  Panda Rider is the best stocked shop that I have found in Thailand.  It has quality brands and many sizes to try on.  Some of the quality helmet brands it sells are Schuberth, Nexx, and Airoh.  Some of the quality boot brands it carries are TCX, Gaerne, and Daytona.  It carries Rev?it and Knox gloves.  It also carries Rev'it clothing.  In my opinion Rev'it, a Dutch brand, makes some of the better value motorcycle apparel.  Rev'it makes good hot weather climate apparel and it really has a lot of apparel made for women. Interestingly Panda Rider does not sell motorcycle socks.  Panda Rider does sell Sena blue tooth systems as well as Schuberth integrated bluetooth systems.

-The Paddock
-- http://www.paddock.co.th
--- NOTES: The Paddock sells Sidi boots as well as parts for Sidi boots.  It sells other top brands as well.

- Dirt Shop Thailand
-- http://www.dirtshopthailand.com
-- NOTES: This shop does focus on off-road riding.  I have purchased some Spidi apparel here and a Bell helmet to use on my scooter. I have heard from a BMW Motorcycle Club of Thailand (BMWMCTH) member that the shop does work on motorcycles and can work on wire wheels for motorcycles.

- The Bike Boutique
-- http://www.bikeboutiqueshop.com/webboard/
-- https://www.facebook.com/HeldThailand/
-- https://www.facebook.com/Wunderlich-Thailand-724189977717288/
--- NOTES: This shop sells Held apparel.  Held is a German brand and makes both apparel and gloves.  Held gloves are very high quality.  Held is also another value brand that makes some very good apparel for women as well. The shop also sells Wunderlich motorcycle accessories.  It is a small shop.

- Arai Helmets
-- https://www.facebook.com/pg/araithailand/about/?entry_point=page_nav_about_item&tab=overview.
--- NOTES: This shop is the Arai importer for Thailand.  It has a very good selection but all of the Arai helmets sold here in Thailand are Asian fit. None of the Arai helmets sold here fit me due to the Asian shape (round not oval).

- Dainese Thailand
-- https://www.facebook.com/dainesethailand/
-- http://786motogroup.com/home/
--- NOTES: Dainese is across from the Arai helmet shop.  Dainese also has motorcycle apparel and boots for women.

- Alpinstars
-- http://1goal1visionth.com
-- The largest shop is located Klongtoey in Bangkok.
--- NOTES: I have purchased some Alpinstars apparel.  Alpinstars does have some motorcycle apparel, gloves, and boots for women. I am a little concerned about the quality of some of the boots. I have found that the staff is unfortunately not very knowledgeable.

- Klim
-- https://www.facebook.com/Moonsoon-Thailand-1503883119847918/
--- NOTES: Klim is a premium American brand. I have some Klim apparel that is specific for hot weather.  I really like it.  Klim does not have a large presence here in Thailand. I have found that getting stock status on items very difficult.

- Touratech
-- http://www.touratech.co.th
--- NOTES: This is a premium brand that sells motorcycle accessories, motorcycle apparel, helmets, gloves, boots, etc.
