Post by: Freddy on July 20, 2017, 04:41:09 PM
Gents,
I need to ship 4 wheels with tyres down from Chiang Mai to Buriram. Any recommendations for a good shipping company to use??

Lazada uses Kerry and it does a good job:

https://th.kerryexpress.com/en/home/

I also received food shipments via Kerry, one day delivery.

Thanks Keith. I emailed Kerry but they seem to be more pop a parcel service? They responded quickly to tell me that.

Thanks Starman. I'll check it out.

We use NCA alot. We send to Pattaya, Ubon, Pitsanulok, ChiangMai to name a few.

Great service. Good price and never had anything go missing.

The receiver gets an SMS when the package is ready for pick up and the sender gets an SMS when the package has been picked up.

Thanks again,
I thought I was going to have to arrange pick-up from this end but the person I'm buying from is now going to organise so I'll see who he wants to use and what the cost is.

Why not save time and ask him to use NCA?

You could have your wheels by tomorrow.

There's no rush to get them here and providing the price is reasonable I'm ok for him to use a company he is familiar with. Probably easier for him to go with what he knows. If he's having any difficulty I'll certainly suggest NCA.

Starman -
I've looked at NCA on the internet but can't find anything that relates to a parcel service (only the passenger coach service). How does it work exactly. Is it a separate dedicated courier service or are items transported on the coach service? Apologies for my ignorance but I can't find any info on how I would arrange pick-up/ pricing etc....

The items get loaded on to the bus.

The last box I sent to ChiangMai was just on the 20 kilo mark. Cost in the region of 300 baht.

Tyres should not be a problem. I know someone who transported a motorbike by NCA.

Ok, thanks. So does the sender takes items to the bus station and recieved pick up from the destination bus station or is there an attached service that does the house to house part??

Collect from bus station. You will need a photo ID. Driving licence is fine.

Make sure the sender gives them your phone number. You will receive an SMS to say the shipment has arrived.

Ok, thanks got it. I guess each wheel is around 20-25kg with tyres so in theory (unless they factor in size also) I should be able to get all 4 here for inside 2,000baht. That's a good estimated comparison against what he suggests later today. Thanks again.

That sounds reasonable.

For info.
Wheels are coming from Chiang Mai by Nim Express. Due to it being the weekend I expect them Monday. They do a next day service providing they have item before 1300hrs however they weren't dropped off until 1600hrs so factoring out Sunday it should be a Monday delivery.
Cost for 4x 18inch truck wheels with tyres 1200 baht. Providing all goes as planned a bargain I'd say.

Wheels arrived yesterday ( Tuesday) at 1100hrs. A day later than expected. Not the fastest of services but satisfactory for the price as I wasn't in a rush. No damage, polite service, proper delivery truck and computerised receiving system.
I noticed that the truck was fully loaded with deliveries so I'm guessing they sat on mine for a day until they had more going out to this general area.
Was also quite comical. The delivery guy obviously got to Lam Plait Mat but then didn't know where our village was from there. He called me, I don't speak Thai, he didn't speak English and Noi was out. I called Noi to call him and direct. I then got a further 4 calls from 4 different Nim employees from 4 more different numbers none of which spoke English and I still didn't speak Thai.
Noi got pissed off as I called her 5 times and gave her 5 numbers to call. I've no idea which one she finally spoke to to get him here but he arrived all smiles.
I asked Noi later, if he was in Lam Plait Mat, why didn't he just ask somone there for directions to Non Tacrong. Majority would know it. She just said he wouldn't ask.
Is that a Face thing or just an opportunity for a longer break?
Sorry if this post is boring !

I put the wife's phone number as the POC to try to preclude these type incidents.

And normally I would but the guy I purchased off sent them and gave my number which I hadn't thought about until the first call came. Anything I organise I give Noi's. I can never remember mine anyway.

Our Lazada delivery guy was using a stand alone GPS, but perish the thought that delivery drivers in Thailand should actually know where they are going before they set off.
Apparently there is another village with the same name as ours in Korat province, so immigration police blithely went to that village and demanded to know with some annoyance, why I didn't live there. The officer in Kap Choeng hadn't liked my map to find my house and very kindly drew a new one (conversation: "what wat? Me: "what, what wat?'... ). My first job ans an engineering involved a lot of surveying and map making, never mind.
