Title: Mosquitoes
Post by: davureborn on September 14, 2016, 07:58:12 AM
It's always my fault, and apparently I did it again. Neighbours on two sides have disgusting pools, one right next to a shit house that doesn't seem to have a cess pit, the other, quite large one used to tip rubbish in the dry season into with the result that snakes and rats appreciate it. So I threw mosquito poison over the boundary into these pools about a month ago, exhausting my supply of Jah ka yung. Since then I have been told that there is no more available and it came out today that I was NOT to treat these pools again, not my business. This is why they refused to supply me with more. Told 'NOT to help'.

I am having metaphysical problems working this out, this one really baffled me. These guys have never done anything about the mosquitoes that are easily visible right now and all they have to do is walk over to the shop and get their free supplies.
I managed to work most things out up to now, but not this one, although I realise that prevention is not a part of most Thais' vocabulary.

Rant over.

At the local market buy a mostly female guppies (and a few males), put them in the pool they will eat the larvae.  And then breed to keep the problem contained.

I have guppies already, maybe a midnight invasion is going to happen, if I can keep the dogs quiet. Didn't think of that.

Put a batch in an uncovered jar and toss it over the fence, maybe cover in paper that will dissolve.

Bought some land that had those large concrete rain catchers on it and it was a breeding ground, the guppies took care of the problem.  And like you I already had them, so I put 10 females and 2 male in each.

Old recipe  ...A cap (40 mill) of kerosene for about 3 mt/square/per surface area.... Throw it into the water.. Every day......The lava die when they come to the surface and try to become a mosquito... After a few weeks you should brake the cycle of the mozzie from egg to adult.... You won't get all of them but good luck anyway... The kero evaporates so water is left clean......
