Title: Gov't Health Warning
Post by: TBWG on July 01, 2008, 10:13:30 PM
Hi

Worth noting, Gov't alert...also known as Weils disease

BANGKOK: -- The Public Health Ministry has order all provinces to be on alert for the emergence of leptospirosis after it found 587 people were infected and 15 died from the disease.

Dr Prat Boonyawongvirot, the ministry's permanent secretary, said Tuesday most infectious cases were found during the rainy season.

People with cuts or rashes on their legs who wade through floodwater are 15 times more at risk of contracting the disease.

Hi C.R,

Well I don't know a lot about it but I believe it is carried by Rats and can be caught from their urine.

It is a problem because a lot of rats live along river banks and around water sources. Bearing in mind a lot of Thai farmers spend an awful lot of time wading around in rice paddies they are more likely to be exposed to it.

In the UK however there have been several cases of fishermen contracting the disease just by sitting on riverbanks.

Oh dear

Rather ironic I should have posted the warning, But the Boss Ladies mum passed away 2 weeks ago and the fit 43 year old guy who organized the tents, tables and other paraphernalia for the proceedings went back to cutting rice a few days later. Result a fever and dead within 3 days from Weils disease consequently another funeral to attend!
