But price of Pork is on the rise.

Normally we buy at 120 THB a KG, but now prices have been quoted as high as 150-160 THB per KG.

Skinless chicken breasts are often 18-20baht/kilo more. The skins weigh next to nothing and it doesn't take much to remove them. Paying extra is plain daft!

Can be more than that, depending on where you shop. I have seen skinless chicken breast in Tops at well over 100 baht/kg. We always buy skin on. We have 4 dogs so nothing goes to waste.

Loin and hip at 125 baht/kg in Makro today.

Thx Starman.

The prices I quoted are prices straight from the (local) Butcher, you hardly can get fresher then that.

Indeed. Most of the pork at markets or at local butchers has only been dead since about 2am and has a very high blood content. Probably going to lose in the region of 10-15% weight.

Pork in Makro is around 2 days old. Still fresh but a lot firmer due to the blood having drained.

Personally I think Makro is excellent for meat and fish. Good quality, good value. We buy chicken legs for the dogs and chicken breasts by the 5kg bag. The wife gets most of her fish there. They also have some very good deals on Salmon saving a minimum of 50% against the Tops prices. Ok, maybe not Norwegian free range salmon but never had a bad one yet. We usually buy the whole salmon, have them bone it and then cut to portion size for freezing. It freezes really well. Bones/head are made into stock and the dogs take care of what's left.

The turnover in meat, fish and shellfish in Makro is large, so it is usually very fresh (having allowed the pork to "hang" for a couple of days" Does away with the opportunity to visit the "seaside" to pick up fresh supplies of prawns, crabs and squid.
