2017 Thai FA Cup (sponsored by Chang, so officially called Chang FA Cup) commenced last night.

It's an annual knockout comp open to all teams registered with Football Association Thailand. The eventual winner will be named as 2017 Chang FA Cup champions, and this team will also gain automatic qualifying status for next years prestigious 2018 Asian Football Club Champions cup.

Last night, 64 Thai teams from Thai Premier League (T1), right down through T2,T3,T4,T5 competed in 32 games (Round 1)

Buriram United (T1) was the only team competing against another T1 team (Ratchaburi). All other Premier League clubs had much lesser opponents from T2,T3,T4,T5. (unlucky draw ?)

Buriram beat Ratchaburi 1-0, so Buriram now advance into the second round of 16 games on 26th July.

There's a full wrapup of all 32 results from last night on Wikipedia already. Google Chang FA Cup 2017

The Buriram v Ratchaburi game (in Ratchaburi) drew the biggest crowd by a country mile.

Buriram were Thai FA Cup Champions in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 .... and currently are sitting on top of the ladder in this years Thai Premier League (T1)

Round 1 completed 21st June. 64 teams started. 32 winners now advance into Round 2

Round 2 of Chang FA Cup will be Wed 2nd Aug. 16 games all on the same night.

All matches-teams are random drawn out of a hat, so it's complete pot luck who you play in each round. Buriram has drawn very nicely for Round 2.

Buriram United (T1) will play Phitsanulok FC (T4) at i-Mobile Stadium in Buriram.

Should be an entertaining game, with hopefully plenty of goals scored by Buriram against a division 4 side, but FA Cups sometimes provide unexpected upsets with minnows triumphing against more fancied teams.
