So you drive out to  the airport, hoping your car won't disappear in your absence, (or take a taxi) wait around and get to Don Mueang where you wait around again, fight for a taxi to get to your hotel? Then you still have to get back home. I doubt that I will ever fly to Bangkok, Chiang Mai maybe one day when I can no longer face the 10 - 12 hour drive.

You have a good point there. It is more than feasible that NCA bus is quicker. It would possibly come down to where you live in Buriram.

Urleft lives on the north side of town so is on the way o the airport. I live on the south side and another 30kms from the airport than he does. I would think that the bus would be quicker for me.

Well I need to get a quick document from the US Embassy.  This was a excellent opportunity to get back and forth to Bangkok without a long ride (at least 5 hours each way).

Have some decent food in Bangkok, a few drinks, OK Hotel, get my document in the morning, then check out some stores, back to DMK at 1330, should be back at my home by 1600.

Otherwise I would have to take the family in a vehicle at a lot more expense.

But to each there own.

I'd like to take it a bit further. I leave here at 8am, take the brat to school and am at my hotel in Bangkok around 14.00. Do some shopping, get something to eat. Next day, embassy at 09.00, finished, generally, at 09.30, back to the hotel by BTS and drive home, get there around 16.00, in time to pick up the brat again. Cost: E20 about 1300.- I guess, no hassle with missed flights or finding an NCA bus back.
I suppose I could go third class train, ฿70 I think. Anyway, for some reason I don't trust any Thai airlines.

Well Nok Air has this sale again 29-31 July:   http://nokair.com/content/en/promotion/wow-sales.aspx (http://nokair.com/content/en/promotion/wow-sales.aspx)

I flew Air Asia 2 weeks ago, they charge for everything.  Baggage, seats, in flight drinks etc.  Nok provides it.   In addition, Air Asia flies into an actual gate at DMK while Nok uses a bus.  I prefer the bus over the 1 km walk to baggage claim.
