Title: Moderation Recommdations
Post by: urleft on August 28, 2014, 11:36:31 PM
Sorry Admin, you have mostly guys here, we are uncivil by nature.  And to make it worse, not only are we proud of it, we relish a great back and forth.

So from my standpoint, what should be moderated?

1.  You attack the family, TG, TW, etc, you are wrong.

2.  You attack Thailand or Buddism, you are wrong.

3.  You attack a newbee that has not responded to you personally, you are wrong.

4.  You are just a f@ckwit lookng for confrontation, you are wrong.

Otherwise I recommend you let us be.  I fully acknowledge that BE member ***  is free to have his own views.

There should be no offensive language aimed at individuals. For me it is ok to say that Muang Thong are shite, but not that the players are all C*****.

As an example

Here we start.... Urleft, Everyone knows which member you are reffering to (Which I edit your message and delete the hint you throw inside),
Do you think its a good idea to open this silly dispution between you and the other member.?

I cannot understand the fun in it.. many members can't find it interesting or fun also.

Admin,

I don't know.

I also don't think that Urleft is referring to one individual in his post  that I can see but making a statement on what he believes should be the ground rules for good conduct. Or more precisely what constitutes unacceptable behaviour.

The rules are well known and includes what urleft wrote above and more.
Everytime we enforce these rules someone jump and say.. why ban that guy? He is my friend, and in my opinion its a great comment, nothing is wrong.
So what would you advise to do? listen to friends of friends or be a real moderator and judge by yourself? We are very light handed on the ban button but we have our limits.

Use the report button to report any bad post/topic.
I repeat this request many times.
You want a clean forum report, but some people are enjoying the banter or prefer to reply and fight over the forum and thats not how it should be.

I will repeat Admin,if you have many members that don't like things the way they were, prove it,show the numbers, yes we can get the st$ts with each other, but that is a part of a debate, when push comes to shove it's much better then being "sanitized" by Admin,we all have our views and sharing those views are part of this little community,IMHO.

I will not share all the reports, complaints, threats, personal messages, offended members, etc.
We know the difference between a joke and other kind of posts, its not our personal view, if so many people report on members each and every time, who do you think is right?
Should we let people fight on forum? (fight not joke), Its not a debate as you try to describe it.

Maybe some conversations should be kept in a bar and stay there out of the forum. sawadi

Correct me if I’m wrong but I have never made any political or religious comments here and the only reason is that I would get banned for not having the same view on things happening in the world as you and the people moderating this page, links to world news are being removed etc. This is not right; everyone is entitled to their opinion and should not get censored due to wrong nationality, religion or political stand.
What’s important to you might only be a bagatelle for others or the other way around, If I don’t like the topic or what’s in it I move on to the next one. I don’t need to vent my opinion on every single topic and I don’t see any reason to get involved everywhere. I understand that some members are interested and want their thoughts heard on every single thing and that’s OK even if I don’t agree with most of them.

Most things are OK with me as long as you don’t threaten forum members and their family or offending the Thai Nation. No violence in-between forum members on topics related to Buriram Expats should be accepted.

Agree. But please why only offending Thai nation is  a problem. Why offend anyone?

Because we have to live in Thailand, and the social and political situations here mean that Thai's have a different sense of humour to us,we can joke and poke shite at each other, and the next day have a beer together....not so in Thai culture or attitudes.

Because it is against the law in Thailand to critisice the Thai Royal Family or Buddism.

Not my experience in Thailand, where often I can joke with my wife and her family and friends and they always have a beer together the next day!

Wife and family are much more forgiving then some one you don't know,or have met in person, face is so important that if that you say or joke about is taken out of context, well we all have seen or read the results of that.

Thank you JasonB. So why offend people you don't know?

Any nationality should not be offended. We are in Thailand but must respect everyone.

I would imagine if you joked about or poked shit at anyone you didn't know you would get a negative reaction, certainly wouldn't be drinking beer the next day?

Keith,
what are your thoughts about my recommendation for you & nookie to be moderators?

I would be fairly ineffective as the only things I would moderate are what I stated on the post start.    Besides, I might then start a catagory for the "Dart Board"  to let us have at it.

As for Nookie, it would be fun to watch him have to give himself warnings.

BTW
I agree with points 1 & 2 in your OP.
Anyone who slags off a BE members family should be immediately banned IMHO.
Likewise, anyone who posts defamatory comments regarding Buddhism or the Royal Family should be removed.
After all, the forum owner is liable for any defamotory remarks posted....

Review,I thought I was clear that I was referring to Thai's only...obviously not clear enough. The old saying you can't please all the people all the time would seem to apply in answer to your comments "why offend anyone"? Different cultures, attitudes etc,can create misunderstandings,as we seem to be having right now.But most westerners have no real understanding of losing "face" in the eyes of Thai people. Some European countries are very, stoic, for want of a better word, where an Aussie or Brit can laugh things off(example only).

Thank You JasonB.

We are talking about Buriram Expats. I know it is in Thailand but we must respect everyone.

Why does someone say they only don't like offending Thai people when we have many nationalities on here? My message was "why offend anyone"?

Please let's be happy together.

No misunderstanding anywhere.

Well if you moderating a expat page in Thailand I think you should already know the answer to this statement. You will always offend someone when taking political stands or if you are posting world news, depending on your political view or nationality, I don't see any wrong in that. When it comes to offending Thai nation it's different story and you as a moderator on this forum should know!
