Post by: SEABY on August 26, 2010, 09:15:35 PM
we are trying to get information how to get our niece a passport when we cannot contact the birth mother and she has had no contact with the child for 8 years ?

A good lawyer in Buri Ram may be my answer but if you can help it is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I can tell you of my own experience, my stepson had not seen his Thai father for about ten years and we wanted to arrange a Thai passport for him. His father had no objection but was out of the country and could not sign the required documentation.

All I know is that my wife had to present various documents to the Buriram court and go through some sort of interview along with my stepson and another family member ( I am a bit vague on all this as I was told to keep a low profile as a farang would just complicate matters)

There was a court hearing and then there is a period of time when presumably objections could be made, there were no objections, my wife was given sole custody and documents stating this, which we presented with his passport application which was approved.

As previously mentioned I may seem vague about details but I stayed well out of it and my Thai is limited and I certainly cannot read Thai.

Now the bit you probably don't want to hear this all took about 6 months to accomplish and we did have a lawyer representing us, mind you the wife did not winge too much so it could not have been that expensive. Can't help with a lawyer as this one came from Maha Sarakam which is where my stepsons father came from.

Good Luck
