Here is more than I understand.
If you have a Thai Telephone it seems you have to take it to a service center to have it validated with your ID Card.
Hopefully some of you smarter Expats can explain why. cheergirl
BTW, AIS is offering a buy one get one free (not telephone) promotion when doing this. Yes, hope you can figure that out also.
Again things are lost in translation, but I heard to don't you can be locked out.

Plenty of unsavoury people have been using anonymous sim cards for nasty plots and also for actually detonating bombs.

My TW just got a new sim card less than 6 months ago, she had to validate.
I recommend you recheck.

Don't need to. like I said I registered my number 3 years back when I transferred my number from AIS to True. If you have any doubts this has been a requirement and law since 2001. Its just now being enforced. To check to see if your number is registered call *151# on any phone with any provider. Its in Thai so your partner may need to translate for you.

The reason I did mine 3 years back was I wanted to transfer my number from AIS over to True as AIS IN KC at that time sucked big time and to do this the my number had to be registered.( I have had the same number for 9 years). All you need is your passport and some providers are accepting your DL as it also has your pp number on it. Remember to check by calling
*151# from any phone and any provider. It is in Thai so you may need a translator.

I and my wife also registered a few years back. My wife has 4 numbers as she can add money to other phones online.
We went to the phone shop today and they said that previous registration was now invalid, and everyone has to register again. This was true,AIS and Dtac, as we have at least one number for each service.

The DL will not have your current passport number if you have renewed your passport in the interim period - or if you have one of the old 'lifetime' DL's.

The wife confirmed with Dtac that her and her family were registered, Dtact confirmed YES and they did this in 2001 when Mr T introduced this. I confirmed with True and True confirmed that I am. I did mine in 2012. If you call *151# and get the message this confirms your registered. This push of the so called new law is just putting teeth into an existing law and is directed at the nobs.. mhihi

Did my 12call sim registration at Telewiz
Showed my Thai Driving licence and was in and out in a minute :biggrin:

Very recently my DTAC pre paid mobile phone number was deactivated ... SIM INVALID was the on screen message.
Had 200bt credit last time I looked ... so I was mildly pissed off. Apparently it was because I did not "top up" the credit on a monthly basis. Anyway ... whatever
I walked up to the True desk at BigC in Buriram and signed up for a True pre paid SIM card. No problem. Showed my passport for ID and was immediately given a True SIM and was online again instantly.
Grand total cost ... 49 baht for the SIM and 20 baht pre paid credit
I guess the only drawback was having a new phone number now. Took a little while to notify my friends.
Anyway ... the point of this post is ... don't stress too much if you get deactivated. It's cheap as shit to get a new SIM

Got into trouble a while back because I didn't know my girlfriend's phone number digits ... stuffed if I know what they are ... I just press her name in the speed dial ... and just like magic ... she answers every time :D
Anyway ... the thought of sleeping with the soi dogs didn't appeal to me very much ... so I learned her number pronto
I'm a good boy :D

Couple of days ago, whilst topping up some credit on my True pre paid mobile phone, the sales guy said " need to see your passport for validation before end of July ..."
I explained that I had shown him my passport just 3 months ago when I bought the new SIM from him. He said " yes ... I know, but need to see again ..."
Whatever.
Yesterday I went to BigC and showed the guy my passport. He typed a few numbers, and we were done in 5mins.
Anyway ... the point of this is ... next time you go shopping, it maybe a good idea to drop into your phone network shop and double check that your number is "validated". I thought mine was, but apparently not.
Don't forget your passport.
