Title: charity event
Post by: wildoates on August 31, 2010, 08:08:23 PM
This is a Surin/Buriram event

We are in the planning stages of putting together a charity ride on 10 Oct (Sunday). It will start in Surin, we will visit 2 establishments in Surin, ride to Prasat, visit 1 establishment, ride to Coffee Corner visit them, then ride to Buriram to coffee connection and 1 other establishment then finish off in Krasang.....where we hope to acquire some chrome pole attractions......end of ride..... you can come by any means you want, does not have to be a Motorcycle, and you don't have to go to all the places, i.e. Surin then meet up at Krasang, Buriram then meet up at Krasang, Just meet up at Krasang.... entry fee will be 200 baht which will go to Tree of Life orphanage, Each business will be enticing you with a door prize……

Again, still in planning stages, will set up times, routes, put up some flyers, trying to get as many as possible, hope to get some of the Thai riders as well. It will be a great event, fun for all, something no one will want to miss…..Keep tuned here……

any ideas or questions, contact myself, (smoke signals work best) or Rocky at coffee connection.....

If the tree of life orphanage gets a few baht out of it so well and good! fastclapping

What you have is people paying a small fee  riding/driving to 3 business in Surin, 4 business in Buriram who are all providing to the event and money to the chairty, with the end being a bar that is providing entertainment for all those that come......

I am not asking for anything, I was just letting this board know that the Surin board, is supporting this event, and members, even though they are not attending the event are donating money to the event that will be given to a charity in Buriram..

Thanks dave, we were looking at you to be the lead vehicle for the cars and trucks. Just in case some bike or bikers break down on the way  bike038  I just thought that since we were support 4 business in Buriram and the orpanage in Buriram that folks in Buriram would care...seems like folks from sisaket, Pattaya, which could find local entertainment without driving here, riding with us, and staying in local hotels have more to give to charity...

Hi wildoates,  bump1

I won't be able to attend the charity event but well done for the thought, look like a well organized trip, hope you do well and drive safety.

I'm sure some from Buriram will want to join. footballscarf

Post phone numbers of yours and Rocky to make it easier to contact each other also outside of the forum.

I was in Starbeams restaurant yesterday and saw the original artwork by our very talented local Muso/artist extraordinaire (David Thrasher). Some of you guys may know him from playing the Mouth-organ and singing  at Time Out. He has prepared a cartoon style Elephant riding a Chopper bike for the front of the Charity Ride T -Shirt and a sort of map for the back of the T-shirt showing the venues visited. I think they will be very very popular especially as all proceeds are going to charity. Numbers will be limited.

We have recieved a serious lack of interest from most of our friend over in Buriram, so I suppose we will be visiting a couple of places in Buriram this Sunday and seeing no-one!
What a great shame as its being televised by Pattaya One TV farang channel and we intend to make it an annual event. So many wasted Business opportunities IMHO!

I second that, it will be nice gesture to the thai community. It will put Surin and Buriram on the map and it is an opportunity, not only for local business but also to have a nice day out. So for once let your heart speak and help the childeren who really can use this support.

Just like to remind you guys that there will be a large group of Bikers (numbers not necessarily our individual size) arriving in Buriram tomorrow afternoon. We will be calling at Coffee Connection, Paddy's Bar and the Orphanage, to present them with presents. After leaving Buriram some will be visiting a GoGo in Krasang, to finish the day off. Pattaya One TV station will be filming the event
All are welcome and obviosly all donations will be grateful received.   thumbup fairydust

I have to share some disturbing news that I have just received.  As you all know, we put on the charity run for the Tree of Life orphanage in Buriram. They are a very good organization and I was very happy to put in a lot of work in support of them.  As we were putting the event together, a few different organizations approached me on sharing donations with them. I told them, that this event was for the Orphanage, and we would look at their needs for future event. Right before the event I was asked by the Shark Riders of Buriram if some of the money could go to a young Blind girl age about 12, who was abused and is now pregnant. It was a sad story to hear, but I had refused others and told them that we had already pledged to the Tree of Life, but if they wanted to put out a collection bucket on the registration table and ask people to donate I was fine with that. Well after the event, and we took the money to the Orphanage, I was then questioned by one of the Shark Riders on how much we kept back for the Blind Girl, I again explained what the event was set for. He informed me that they (the shark riders) had all agreed that money was going to be taken out for the blind girl. I informed him that it was not his event to make that decision.

Well someone from the Shark riders went to the orphanage and talked to the Director, and said many of them only went on the event, with the understanding that some of the money was going to the blind girl, so the director, out of the kindness in his heart, gave back to the Shark Riders 10,000 baht to go to her.

This is very upsetting, the Shark Riders in Buriram gave no extra donations to the event, and they paid the entry fee and bought a few T-shirts like everyone else.  So what they paid, and what they received back, they more than tripled their money if you count all the riders that came from Buriram.  Not bad for just showing up for someone else’s event.

I have been riding motorcycles for 46 years; I have ridden big bikes 40+ years of those. I have ridden with many Motorcycle clubs, large and small. But I have never encountered a group that would have pulled such an underhanded action, done behind the organizer’s backs, which has tarnished an otherwise very happy and positive event.

That is a disgusting way to act and although I personally did not organise this event, I feel for those who did.

What must that guy in the orphanage think of us riders?

Shocking !

There are many worthwhile causes but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

This line can only be drawn by the organisers and Mike was spot on (with whatever he had decided).

My support was to the organisers and whichever beneficiary they chose - I also feel for them, they must be deeply hurt by this action which is IN NO WAY A REFLECTION ON THEM OR WHAT THEY HAVE ACHIEVED.

As I have already said elsewhere, I think messages were not understood or passed on, and the pressure of organising the event took its toll on some.  reiki1

I have been riding bikes all my life and have never activily joined a club. The work done over here by all of the bike clubs is admirable and to see Thai/Farangs together with mutual interest, can only be a good thing. I am personally, very sorry to lose ANY mates as life is too short to hold grudges. The few times I have seen the Shark Riders In Surin, I have always given them a wave (friendly hand gesture, not BOLOA's bike).  whistle

I would be happy to have a beer with you Pee Nuu (Whoever you are). What bike do you ride. bike037
I think BOLOA's suggestion of taking this thread off or locking it, is a good idea.  bravo1

Nothing, I am trying to build bridges. is that a bad thing?
I am dealing with a new member of the forum who has not introduced him(her)self in the relevant section,so how could I possibly be 'afraid' of talking to a stranger.

Your a hard one to have a beer with Pee Nuu! You name a time and place and I will be happy to meet you.

We are planning the 2011 charity event on behalf of The Tree of Life Orphanage again. I will keep the forum posted when facts are known and I hope any bikers in Buriram will want to assist their local farang run orphanage.
