Title: House book,, Yellow book,,requirements.
Post by: fishy on May 24, 2016, 08:35:41 PM
Maybe I have missed something in another thread and the question may have already been answered.. Apologies if I have missed it. I am wishing to get my name registered in the Yellow book/House book... We tried the other day and was knocked back as not married. The reason I am wishing to get my name in the book is for a few reasons...To help in obtaining a Thai Drivers Licence...Ownership of a vehicle in my name.. Looks good for Visa application to Australia as have already burnt up the Tourist Visas applications for the missus. Hopefully do not have to pay as much Tea Money when pulled over by the Boys in Brown.

So the Question is can you get your name in the Yellow book without being Married?

First things first. You do not need a yellow book to get a driving licence. You can get one with a proof of address from the police station, which you also need for a yellow book. I believe Buriram vehicle registration can also be done without a yellow book.

You don't get your name "put in the yellow book". It is exclusive to you as an expat. Your wife and family will be in their own blue book.

You will also need some translations like your passport. PM me and I will give you detailes of a service here in Buriram that is accepted.

Agree with Starman. I've been here permanently 2 years now. I had my Thai DL and purchased a new truck ( registered in my name) within 2 weeks of being here. The certificate of residence was easy to obtain from the Buriram Police Stn.
Production of my DL at Police stops has been effective to date and (touch wood) I've never handed over any money with the exception of a speeding fine in Bangkok ( which tbh, I deserved).
When I first arrived I was given duff info which lead me to believe a TB was needed. Members on this site set me straight and to date I have not faced any situation that could have been avoided or improved by production of a TB.
If there is a real benefit to your visa applications then understandable but for day to day living here, car in your name and a driving lisence it is definitely not required.

Agree with Starman.

+1

I've had a yellow house book for many years and thought it would be useful but so far I have never used it once.
I still have to get a LoR from my local Tambon office to renew my DL and when buying a new motorbike recently I just put it in the wife's name as its so easy to do so.( after 14 years of marriage I think it's safe to do so )
I can understand someone wanting to put a car in their own name and I have done this 3 times before on a car and motorbikes before I had my yellow house book without any problem.
The only thing the yellow house book has done for me is to give me bragging rights that I've got one :)
