Motorbike problem
« on: November 09, 2018, 05:26:06 AM »
I have a Honda PCX 150, 12k  kilometers.  After the engine heats up, 5 minutes or so,  The engine speed will drop, maybe 10 kph.  and then return to where it was, then drop again.  During the time that the bike has slowed down, increasing the trottle has no effect. Has anyone else experienced this problem or has any ideas as to the remedy.

Sounds like one of two things.

Either the plug or the connectors are faulty or there is a blockage in the exhaust.

SomLuck, when that happens do you get the engine warning light displaying on the dash?
Sounds like it's going into limp mode.

Hi Som Luk
Sounds like fuel problem, what do you normally fill with?
You can buy fuel additves that will clean your carb and engine, might work and use the normal petrol , but if you?re running all the time with the local sda bottles of gasahol then your fuel lines might be clogged.
When was the last time you serviced it,have they ever changed the air filter at the same time ,a blocked or knackered air filter will cause running problems also.
The new Honda shop in the city would be able to sort it.

I have been using either 91 or 95 gasahol for the last 3 years.  The warning light does not come on when this occurs. If the plug was bad or the fuel line  clogged wouldn't the problem be continuous instead of intermittent.  I appreciate the responses, thank you all. If anyone has any additional thoughts I would appreciate hearing them.

If muck is being pulled through then it's possible it could be intermittent I.e. It clears then pulls a bit more through. For the cost of a bottle of fuel cleaner additive it may be worth giving that a try to see if it clears the problem. Even if using pump 91/95 it is also possible to get a batch of dirty fuel or the pumps pull some dirt from the bottom of the storage tanks.

A plug problem or plug lead problem can also be intermittent until it finally gives up. Lead is more likely to be intermittent.

When it comes down to it there are a number of possible causes. You could try popping into Honda and asking them to put it on a diagnostic or it may be a case of eliminating the obvious and cheapest things first. Fuel clean, carb clean, plug etc. fuel filter may also be worth a look. Also it may sound daft but check your battery charge and connections.
