Border Crossing for additional 30 days
« on: April 23, 2018, 08:15:17 PM »
Guys.
Not up to speed with this as here on retirement visa.
A friend has been here for nearly 30 days (visa stamp on entry)

He is unwell and wants to stay for a further 30 days.

What are his options.
Border hop to Cambodia, stay overnight and re-enter for another 30 days?? If so what's the best border crossing point to use?? He's in Lam Plait Mat.

Any other options at the immigration office??

Your friend can go to Immigration in Buriram and get a further 30 days for the price of 1900 baht.

Day trip to Chong Chom would work?  Lots of shopping too.

This would probably be a more costly option taking into account the Cambodian entry and departure fees

Khmer Immigration scum charge 1500 baht for their visa and 300 baht for the U turn total of 1800 baht at Chong Chom. I have given up on this crossing for that reason and use Chom Sa Ngam just 70 km to the east. Its only 1200 baht. Friendly, professional and no scam.

In addition to the above, and depending on his nationality he could also, upon re-entry into Thailand, only be given 15 days. Only G7 member states get 30 days, other nations only get 15 days at land borders.

Immigration is his best bet, no long drive, no hassle by Cambodia Immigration for tea money etc.

Freddy, don?t forget to take a passport picture when you go

That was changed about few years back. All westerners crossing by land get a 30 day visa exempt. Chong Chom will only let you do one back to back.

@GL.

Wow that must have completely slipped by me. I know about the 2x in year rule, but that the G7 "rule" isn't in effect anymore I honestly didn't know.

Do you have GPS coordinates for that other border you mentioned ??

Map for 14.345705 104.058405

Highlight above - right click - search Google for - will bring up a map for the border crossing.

Or, put coordinates straight into google maps.

Is it really worth it to travel an extra 140kms round trip to possibly save 600 baht?

I spend mine on a flat of Angkor beer and still have money.  Its not the money its the principle of the Khmer scamers at CC. Beside the day out and beautiful country. BTW CC charges your Thai partner 50 baht with ID. CSN charges nothing. There is secured parking at CSN and you can get a taxi from there to SR. You can not drive a car across but you can drive a motor bike. There is virtually no one using this crossing and Thai and Khmer Immigration for exit and entry is all within about 30 meters and they both are friendly and professional. Thai immigration even have a wheel chair to use if you need it and love to take photos of you using it. The Khmer have a casino about 100 meters inside and Thai immigration will let you take the wheel chair to it. spot1

Wheel chairs available at CC. I can buy beer with the petrol money I save. My wife doesn't go with me.Secure parking at CC. There are casinos at CC. I don't use them. There are taxis to Siem Reap. You can drive a car or a motorbike across CC. I have never had a problem with people being unfriendly there. So...is it worth travelling an extra 140kms to save 600 baht?
