Hi everyone, new to the forum
« on: June 08, 2017, 04:04:15 PM »
Hi, I moved to Thailand in August 2015 after retiring from the British Fire Service. I spent the first 18 months living with my girlfriend Apple in Pattaya
We moved to Buriram in March this year and we are currently renting a condo in the city centre whilst building a house in Sawai Chick. (17km out of city heading towards Surin)
Would be great to meet up with other expats.
Iain

Thanks for all the welcomes. I am spending most of my time on the land  making sure no corners are cut on the build.

Friend of a friend had a very expensive house being built. I'm not sure what prompted the inspection but the Artchitect visited the site, called in a structural engineer and builder had used a smaller gauge steel than specified in the roof supporting columns and with only 10 strands instead of the specified 16 per column.
That's all going through the courts meanwhile roof had to be taken off and rather than start from scratch columns all being made bigger. Needless to say a new building company are doing the work and he's now got a 24hour onsite project manager. The guys pretty well off so can stand the additional costs until the case with first builder goes to court or is settled. But, what if you can't afford it. Seems to be not uncommon here. We also had to change building teams mid build for other reasons.
