Skin Cancer Doctor
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:49:09 PM »
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone would know a good doctor that knows about skin cancer. With our western skin and Thailand climate, I thought some one from this site might know. Normally I go to a Skin Scan place in Aus, but a couple of spots have appeared on my back and I don't intend to go back for a couple of months. Regards, Gerry.
PS. Sorry this is in wrong area, but was searching skin cancer and it left me there. Could the Admin person move this to the correct area please.

I have no first hand experience of this but just a suggestion. May be worth giving Bangkok Hospital in Korat a call. Pretty certain they have a dermatology department and all their switchboard staff speak good English.

St Marys in Korat is just as good IMO and less than half the price........The Army hospital over there gets good reports too.......The brand new place near the University in Korat is also top notch.(I'll dig its name out)

Phantom....Let us know how you go...I'm ex Oz also...had two real ones cut out so far... my brother fell of the perch from a secondary cancer from a melanoma 6 years ago.... I'm back in Oz in a couple of months to see my local... always watching the blotches on my skin... The last one I had cut out I should have done earlier as I new it didn't look good but waited to get back to Aus as the docs know what they are looking at back home..Would be good to get feedback on how the Thai Docs compare...........

Hi Fishy, I went on a Friday but was told the Skin Doctor only works Monday. Check before you go. Went back on the following Monday and got to see him.( Not Dr Ryan as was told he will be back about August or so). I mentioned to the doctor that it looks like a BCC( Basal cell carcinoma) as I have had about 30 cut out already.
He asked me if I was sure as he had never seen one before in the flesh.( That filled me with confidence). He ordered a biopsy from downstairs in the surgery area where the waiting time was going to be hours. I pulled the pin then and left. I used some " Black Salve" I had earlier obtained from South America instead. Took 3 weeks to get rid of it. Left me with a small hole where it used to be.
I have spoken to my skin doctor in Aus about this treatment and she said that she had heard good reports about it but obviously couldn't recommend it. I will see her in a few months when next back in Aus.
I don't think you can blame Thai doctors as they never get to see this stuff that is so common in Aus.
Pretty sure had I waited for the biopsy and then going again to get it cut out, would have achieved a suitable outcome.

Nookie very correct about being a new hospital and good priced. Cost me about 100 Baht for the consultation.
Hope this helps.
Regards Gerry

Gents,
Excuse my naivety regarding the subject. Given the climate here, why is it Thai doctors don't have experience dealing with these carcinoma types? Is it a fair skin condition?
Sorry to ask questions regarding something that is a serious and worrying issue for you, I don't know much about skin cancers.

Phantom...Thanx for reply.... Like you said and I go by also...Aus Docs know what they are looking for as they see it so much more than over here.... Even the Thai missus goes black (which I like) when she comes down under with me to Aus for a holiday...The sun is so much more intense with it's burning in Oz...

Freddy if I may..... The ozone layer over Australia is well noted as being non-existant. On top of that white skinned people have settled (took over) the country... The sun is very intense in Australia... like Thailand it is yes firkin Hot but the sun In Australia Burns your skin also....Over here I just tan my skin in the hot sun....In Australia I burn red even in winter months... The sun is so much more intense in a different way to Thailand.. or the tropics per say..
