New shops / restaurants in Surin. List them here
« on: February 20, 2017, 01:42:03 PM »
The purpose of this thread is to list any new shops, restaurants etc in Surin that have recently opened up.

A month or so ago a bunch of new shops just opened up outside the entrance to Rajamangala University of Technology. They have a food 'outlet' selling all sorts of goods and other shops including clothing / gift stalls. Just nearby the army developed the area near the river. There's lots of food stalls and places to sit and eat.

Also, there's a new restaurant located in the same street as the Nakhon Chai Air bus terminal. If your driving down the road and the NCA terminal is on your left you can drive another 500m and its on your left (close to the new massage shop). The restaurant sells burgers and other western food. We visited on a Sunday night and it was full. For a restaurant that's well out of town it was impressive to see a restaurant that is full of Thai's and farang.

Please add to this thread if you feel inclined.

cheers

There's a melon farm on the road leading to Honda called the 'Brio melon farm'. It sells quality melons- rock melons and watermelons. It also sells cherry tomatoes on the vine and other vege.

Its quite a fancy set up and must have cost the owner a lot to set up. You can do a tour of the whole set up if you want and feed their lambs.

Cheers

There's a new restaurant called 'The White House' which is located 500m down from Home Pro in Surin.

This restaurant does 'dry aged' beef steaks and I can assure you that they are delicious. The owner told me that the beef is from Japan and they sell various cuts of beef at different prices. The salad was fresh as well.

They have a small bar selling cocktails etc. Its a friendly vibe but the noise from traffic is a bit annoying.

This has to be the best option for steaks in Surin.

cheers

There's a new 'Koncept' furniture store past RMUTI (University of technology) on the left- opposite HomeMart. I don't know how they are going to make money based on the poor location and numerous other furniture stores in Surin.

One opened in Buriram around 6 months ago (maybe longer, time passes quick). It has a good location but never seems to have much custom. Many other outlets stock the concept brand also. Not the type of thing I like but maybe Thais like it as many seem to prefer the very modern look.

KFC have now opened up in the Tesco Lotus shopping centre opposite Big C. In the last 6 months or so they have renovated the back area of Tesco and there's a new electronics section. They have also improved the fresh produce area and its now looking more like Big C- it's direct competitor.

The main attraction there would seem to be Mr DIY.

Despite the revamp, the car park is little more occupied than previously. Just some 30/40 cars mid morning, whilst both Big C and Makro car parks are full.

There's a new restaurant located on that canal road opposite the 'modern smile' clinic called 'Dish up steak'. I think they have re-located from a smaller premises near the china town area of Surin.

This new restaurant is a large building- maybe previously converted from a house. They have an upstairs and downstairs outdoor area. Inside the restaurant is quite new and fresh looking; but the music is too loud in my opinion.

I think they are directly competing with the 'Whitehouse' steak restaurant near HomePro. My opinion on the quality of the food is that it was all generally ok. The steaks were nice enough but its not in the same league as the Whitehouse. We also ordered a crumbed fish dish which was over cooked. Both dishes came with fresh salad and thick cut fries. They have pasta dishes on offer and starters.

Overall, this restaurant is worth a visit as its reasonably priced and possibly in a better location than the Whitehouse- which has a lot of noise from traffic. However the steaks are better at the Whitehouse because I believe that they source 'dry-aged' beef.

cheers

There's a new organic fruit and vege shop called 'Green shop and Organic'. Its located in the same street as the 'Modern Smile Clinic'- on the opposite side of the road next to the 'Shabu Yuta' restaurant.

There's another new hotel in town:

http://www.sorinhotel.com/

It looks quite fancy from the outside. Its a bit out of the way though. Maybe an ok option for the elephant festival.

Also there's a new health food shop / bakery located opposite the land office. Its called 'Organic natural product healthy food bakery'. They have a lot of health food products etc. I enjoyed eating a gluten free muffin and another cake they had for sale.  I recommend taking a look at this shop to support them as a new business.  Their facebook page is   'ArunLifeNatural'

The latest is that Surin plaza has renovated the 2nd floor. In the back area (used to be stationary dept) there's a new sports section selling all sports, camping, trainers etc. It's quite a good selection of goods on par with what you can buy in Robinson's.

Also, there's an antique furniture store opened up on the road where the Isuzu and Honda dealership is located. If your traveling towards Surin (on that road) drive past the petrol station and it's on your left - opposite a steel fabrication company.

Surin's best kept secret is the newly opened 'Mozern Garden and Restaurant'. Its located down the road opposite Big C. Drive past Krissanai housing village on the left and 500m on the right is the restaurant.

It's possible to hire out the main restaurant building for functions / parties. The outdoor area is really pleasant down by the water edge. No annoying music and food is ok. I was impressed with the fresh garden salad and green curry.
