Shipping goods from Australia to Thailand
« on: August 21, 2014, 03:12:24 PM »
Hi all, i am currently in the process of building a swimming pool, I am wondering if anyone as had any experience in shipping goods to Thailand and may be able to help me. The prices for pool equipment such as pumps and filters is over double for the same brand i can buy in Australia and as for salt water chlorinators the price is nearly triple. So ordering from Australia and paying the 1% duty and 7% tax would still save a considerable amount in costs. if anyone has information about the best way to ship the items or any other experiences with shipping to Thailand.
I would appreciate the help
Thanks in Advance
Steve

Hi Steve,
I move out to Lam Plait Mat permanently in September and will also be building a pool. I am facing a similar problem where the cost of chlorinators and pumps in Thailand pushes the price up considerably. Like you I was considering getting the kit shipped in from either the States or Aus. UK prices are high as not many build pools here.
Are you building pool yourself or using a pool company? I would appreciate it if you could let me know the company you order your pump, filter and chlorinator from if you go that route as I may have to do the same. Sorry I can't help on the best shipping method but would assume companies in Aus may have shipped to Thailand previously and will know safest approach.
Have to be honest, I'm struggling with the pool project a bit as I've never had one and am learning as I go.

Hi Freddy, I will let you know how i go. I am building the pool myself with local builder. I contacted a few pool building companies and the cheapest price i got was 20,000Baht per Sqm way over priced if you ask me.

Agree. Prices are high. I have managed to find company at around 16kTHB based in Surin but still high as you say. SPT ( swimming pools thailand) seem a reasonable supplier of equipment but prices for salt water chlorinators high although similar to purchase in UK. Where are you based? Will be interested to know how you get on with local builder. I'm assuming you have some pool building knowledge and are project managing. I have none so am being very cautious on which way to go but suspect I will end up paying over the odds. Hope your project goes well mate.

yeah i am in the Prakhonchai area. i used to install fibroglass swimming pools many years ago but this is my first concrete pool. Considering concrete is only 1800Baht a cubic meter and steel here is cheap. i just cant justify paying the prices the pool companies want. i was quoted for a 1.5hp pump 33,000baht same pump in Australia $500 so over double in price, same for filter 64,000baht between 800-1000aud and for salt water chlorinator 74,000baht $1100aud. So this is why i was asking about shipping lol
