Pot Luck get together
« on: August 17, 2014, 08:44:59 PM »
I have been hosting rib nights.  It started out with me buying 2 extra slabs and inviting local village farangs.  It has grown where I openly invite BE members and their TG/TW.    Unfortunately this is exceeding my capability to support the event.  At the last rib night we had 4 couples, and more than enough food, however, it was a strain.   http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,7137.msg50037.html#msg50037

In the US we have what we call "Pot Luck", best discribed here:   hungry1
The potluck supper is a great idea in theory: everybody brings one dish to share, and you end up with a feast. But in practice, it can be a difficult affair, both to orchestrate and to attend. What if the dishes clash? What if everyone brings lasagna? What if you bring soup and your host has no serving bowls? Uff.  http://www.bonappetit.com/entertaining-style/parties/article/potluck-rules-etiquette

I have the space (and am getting more), but I would be hard pressed to accomodate 7 couples because of a lack of tables and chairs.  I am not in the food business so don't want to buy the extra.

So what do you guys think about trying to organize a pot luck night to bring expat families together?  Guest would need to bring a dish or 2, drinks, and chairs/table (if portable).

I am sure DD and Som Luck have attended these type events, but I am not sure if my buds from across the pond have done.

So is there interest in a pot luck get together?  I will volunteer to be the host.

Thoughts?

I  would willingly take part and bring  something, eatable bread probably, but I am still sorting out a  lot of complicated family and financial stuff at the moment which seems to involve driving to Bangkok about once a week. End of September I will be free of this burden I hope. Thanks for the invite.

Arrive in Lam on the 18th September. Give me a couple of weeks to do the initial running around and buy a truck then count me in. Will be good to meet some of you. Once settled, will also be happy to host.
