Butter
« on: April 07, 2014, 07:38:53 AM »
I have tried various butters in BigC and Makro, I found them., to different degrees, disgusting. The more expensive ones are slightly better. Any recommendations? If I could buy Flora or even the very expensive Lurpak without driving to Korat?

Flora seems to have vanished off the shelves in the Pattaya supermarkets

I used to get Olivio, but that seems to have gone from Surin, but it was nice.

It might be better to tell us which butters you don't like Davu.

Then if we see something different we can get post about it.

BigC currently have

227g Allowrie (Aust) salted or unsalted 90 bht.
227g Anchor (NZ) 114 bht
227g Orchid (Thai) 79 bht

I must be very difficult, I ate Swiss butter for years so maybe I got a bit choosy. I don't like any of those listed, thanks, I am trying to finish off a pack of Anchor New Zealand at present. They seem to have a rancid, lardy taste to me. There is nothing written about preservatives or whatever on the package.

Thanks for the video, I already did this in Switzerland. A by product is butter milk, that you can use for pancakes and other stuff. Joke: you need cream (cream, not chemical trash) with at least 35% fat content (as the video mentions). Can get in Switzerland, in France, 30 minutes from where I lived, Mai mee, only 30% and you can't make butter with that, I know. Seeing as how the dairy industry here is a horribly dependent on growth hormones, antibiotics and stuff we don't (want to) know about, I don't think I will be going for Thai cream for the moment, imported cream has strange things done to it to keep it 'fresh' (as in 'undead').
So, where can I get some Lurpak, please?

Sooooooooooo . . . . . that said, looks like a run to Korat is upcoming.  Perhaps you could stock up a bit to supply your fellow butter lovers.

So I found a butter in Makro that I hadn't noticed before, ฿85.- for 200gm, Emborg unsalted with a picture of a Friesian on the front. Made with European cream... doesn't taste GREAT but it's ok.
