A couple of months ago I bought several Golden Cane Palms from the garden centre near the Elephant Roundabout.

Cost 70 baht each. The palms were about 2m in height and have made my patio/carport area look wonderfully "tropical"

Apparently they are an extremely hardy, low maintenance, non prickly, perfect pot palm that will grow to about 4m.

Just thought I'd mention this, as maybe you're scratching your head wondering what palm might look good in your garden. There is certainly plenty of different varieties to choose from. At 70 baht each, these maybe worth considering.

On a recent trip back to Oz, I saw these same palms for sale in a garden centre. Starting price was 2000 baht up to 3000 baht.

I didn't have the heart to tell the guy they cost only 70 baht in Thailand.

Attached is a pic of the Golden Cane Palm

I saw them this morning, that's where we bought ours, after 2 1/2 years nearly 4 meters tall, and I started to to prune last week, but not really invasive.

Totally agree. We bought around 20 of these from a garden centre just outside Lam Plait Mat and have put them all around the pool. Was a really cheap way to make the area look good and so far they are doing pretty well despite crap soil.
