Some pictures from yesterday's festival in the evening.
Was nice to see the Opera show as well, interesting variety of food stalls(Chinese & Thai food).
Many Thai-Chinese people attending the festival and go to see the chinese opera show (Very impressive, chinese music with chinese customs) and go pay respect to their god in the local Buriram Chinese Temple that in the same street of the festival of course,(THANON SAMATTHAKARN) near the chinese school.

Chinese Opera Background:
When the ancestors of today's Thai Chinese community migrated south and arrived in Thailand, they brought their culture with them and preserved it in their new surroundings. In their cultural baggage were traditional Chinese forms of entertainment which brought them solace as they endured the rigors of beginning life anew in a place that was far from home.
One form of popular theatre that they especially loved was ngiw (งิ้ว), or Chinese Opera.
Nowadays there are ngiw troupes not only in Bangkok as it used to be before.
However, the heads of most ngiw troupes hire performers from Isan instead of Chinese singers, who are very scarce. It isn't necessary that the actors speak Chinese; all they have to do is memorise the words required by their parts. Not only stage roles are taken by Thais from Isan these days.
The musicians, too, usually come from the Northeast. But all of this change makes very little difference to the audience, as those who understand all of what is going on up on stage are few and far between.
Whatever the quality and accuracy of the performance, in most cases, it will do.
At present there are about 30 ngiw troupes active in Thailand, not more than 10 of them made of up Chinese performers. Most of them have work to do all year long, as they are invited to perform at different towns and cities.

yesterday was the last day of the Chinese opera, big show, lots of food stall.. and beer Leo.
I've seen mane foreigners/farang enjoying the show and the food quality and selection was good.
some of the food are very hard to find as they are not so popular dishes maybe?!.....
Anyway, I think this part of the city, even without the Chinese opera festival, bearing with it some very interesting shops and food kinds that only the local people knows about, especially of course because many of them are originally Chinese.
If you happen to tour this part of the town, if its for businesses or other things around there, you'll find another view of buriram town.
Till the next festival.

"Chinese Opera" Festival BURIRAM ( "Ngan Ngiyu" ) has started!!!
Lots of food, music, Chinese opera show and games for the kids.
I find it very interesting to see how all Thai-Chinese families are coming with their families to see the Chinese opera and to the Chinese temple, trying to preserve and transfer the Chinese tradition and language to the next generation.
The whole event/festival is located in the "Chinese Area" of Buriram city, on Samatthakam Road. Opposite the Chinese school area and the Chinese temple.
*Near the area of "speed" disco.

'Ngan Ngew' chinese opera festival event is also including a parade with Chinese costumes
of Lion which it is believed that will bring lucky and prospirity to who give/donate money to the lion's mouth.
The parade travels all around the town on the streets, really big colorfull parade with many costumes and lighting small Squibs (explosives) and make special dance inside that house who give money to the lion for good luck.
