Prevention of sugar hoarding and smuggling to neighboring countries.

After have reported that several areas of Buriram province began experiencing shortages of sugar and price increased which create hardship to consumers.

Department of Internal Trade of Buriram province has indicated that if detected the traders who has hoarding sugar and increased price higher than reality they will be prosecuted decisively which will be both penalty and fine.

However, from a random inspection in the retail stores and wholesale stores by officials. There were no any traders with such behavior.

The price of sugar in Buriram province now is as below :

- Refined sugar is 25-26 baht per kg.(Kilogram)

- Brown sugar is 24 baht per kg.(Kilogram)

In addition, Department of Internal Trade has also cooperated with the agencies responsible for the area along the border to strict surveillance and monitoring to prevent the illegal sugar export to neighboring countries in ant army style.

“Pilot study of groundwater for agriculture” in Lamplaimat district.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has entered drilling 20 of groundwater wells according the project of “Pilot study of groundwater for agriculture” to assist the cantaloupe farmers at Ban Nong Suang and Ban Salang Pan, Salang Pan subdistrict, Lamplaimat district, Buriram province under the budget of more than 12 millions Baht in order to solve the drought problem, water shortages to the farmers who planted cantaloupe and also for the farmers to be able to grow crops to occupied themselves after the rice harvest.

This area has been experiencing drought repeatedly for more than 15 years.

Currently there are 40 farmers who planted cantaloupe and joined the project as mentioned with total cultivated area of more than 940 rais.

In the past, each year there were less than 10 farmers who planted cantaloupe.

It is expected that when the drilling of groundwater wells will be completed, at least 100 farmers will join the project.

Public health has alert the public about the danger of boozing and eating poisonous animals.

Buriram Public health Office has alert people who believed that boozing and eating poisonous like snakes, centipedes, scorpions and other animals that are poisonous are alleviated the cold.

It’s a false belief and it has the opposite effect that adversely affect health which causing damage to the liver, lining of the stomach and intestinal inflammation and cause ulcers in the stomach.

Especially the elderly who is physically weak and have low immunity.

If drinking a lot of alcohol during the cold weather it may cause fatal shock and also vulnerable to accidents as well.

In the winter of each year, there are many patients with diseases that caused by drinking alcohol come to get treatment in various hospitals of Buriram province.

Therefore the public health office has advised the people to exercise regularly and wear thick clothes to relieve cold, especially the farmers who are harvesting the rice.

Buriram ordered the accelerate exploration to assist students who face with shortage of winter coats.

Mr.Narong Paewponsong (Director of Education Area of Buriram) has instructed the school administrators of more than 200 schools to accelerate exploration and check the amount of students who are from the poor families, disadvantaged and face with shortage of winter clothes(clothing). Especially the schools in remote areas and along the border, in order to find a way to help after the temperatures has been lower and the weather is colder.

According to the preliminary survey it is showed that there are poor children up to 29,665 person from 41,000 person in 202 schools. Anywise, the province will have public relations with government agencies, private organizations and the red cross society to be joined in donate the winter clothes to distribute to students to alleviate the cold.

Department of Fisheries warned the fish farmers to beware of disease outbreaks during the winter.

Department of fisheries of Buriram province has warned the fish farmers which have more than 18,000 in the province, to keep the animal health care, especially who reared fishes in cages and in earthen ponds because during the cold weather, fishes will eat less and are less healthy and weak which it’s conducive to get disease easily.

Every year it has found fishes with wounds around the body that caused by bacteria during the winter.

Therefore, farmers have to be careful by reared in a smaller amount, not too much density or take a quicklime dissolved in water then pour into the fish pond for 50-60 kg per 1 rai.

The key is: Do not pump out the water frequently.

Newin Chidchob and his father make Kathina to 239 temples in Buriram province.

Mr.Chai Chidchob (Chairman of the House of Representatives) and Mr.Newin Chidchob (The party leadership of Bhumjaithai) together has preside in the Kathina ceremony. Which has the member of the House of Representatives (MPs) and cabinet that belong to Bhumjaithai party, like Mr.Sopon Zaram (Minister of Transport), Mr.Suchat Chokchaiwattanakorn (Deputy Minister of Transport) including the Permanent Secretary and Director-General of several ministry has joined in Kathina ceremony as well.

Kathina ceremony has held at “Wat Klang” temple, located in Buriram Municipal area.

In addition, Mr.Newin Chidchob will make Kathina to provide to other temples that have not reciept Kathina, which there are 239 temples from 2,000 temples belong to Buriram province.

Explaination/Background:

The ceremony of Kathina, Thai people called Thod Kathin ( Thod Gathin ).

Gathin Festival is a traditional Buddhist festival celebrated by villagers in Northeast Thailand (Issan/Isan/Esarn) that villagers make parade to their local temple for prayers, providing the donated stuff to the temple.

Department of Fisheries accelerate help to the aquaculture farmers who affected by flood, expected to offset more than 9 millions Baht.

There are many aquaculture farmers in Buriram province who have suffered from flood.

The survey found that the aquaculture farmers in 13 districts the flood damage of 2,863 cases from 18,000 aquaculture farmers in Buriram province, which classified of damaged as follows :

Damaged 3,553 of Fish ponds

Damaged 51 of Fish cages

Damaged 36 of Frog ponds

Total damaged to more than 15,600,000 THB

Which the Department of Fisheries of Buriram province has accelerate exploration to assist and will pay the compensated to the farmers as below:

- Fish pond will get 3,406 baht per rai (but not more than 5 rais per farmer).

- Fish cages will get 257 Baht per square meter (but not more than 80 square meters per farmer).

The excess part the compensated will be paid by half the damaged as well.

Buriram people flock to buy 10 baht winter coats.

Klong Thom market at Buriram province at Nong Pap yard was lively atmosphere with students, officials and people who have low incomes came to shopping secondhand winter coats which cost 10-30 baht per one.

In order to wear in the winter because they afraid that if the temperatures will be lower and colder then the prices will be increased as well.

Also the Meteorological Department has predicted that this year the weather will be cold for longer time than in the past.

People are buying the winter coats earlier than usual and that’s resulting a better income for the traders than last year, which last year they had an income af about 1,000-2,000 Baht per day but in this year they have an income of about 5,000-10,000 baht per day.

Teachers and students together accelerate cleaning and restoration the flooded school.

The parents, teachers and students were together accelerated cleaning ‘Ban Bung Bao’ School, Ban Jarn subdistrict, Phutthaisong district, Buriram province by sweeping the garbage and mud inside the classrooms, cafeteria, bathrooms and library that was flooded more than 1 meter height, which has damaged the teaching equipment.

The school was unable to open on schedule and declared holiday extension for two weeks.

Today is the first day of school opening, after the water level decreased continuously close to normal.

While there are still flooding in the lawn and in front the school building, the flooded level is about 10 cm and start to have smell from the flooded garbages which expected to take about a week in regeneration, Therefore the school will provide students a temporary place to study at the temple of the village.

Buriram has strict control to prevent criminals stealing rice from the flood victims farmers.

Police chief of Buriram police station has instructed to all police station in the area responsible of the province to provide assistance and facilities to the people, all 20 districts that has been declared a disaster area experienced flooding and set the police patrol to patrol in villages and district that the farmers has brought the paddy to dry on the roadside and in the open spaces in the village to prevent the thieves from stealing rice of farmers for 24 hours.

If police find such a behavior, that person will be arrested and prosecuted as it is strictly prohibited.

Farmers insist the government to support water pump machine and rice varieties to compensate the rice fields flooded damaged.

The farmers in Ban Wang Palad, Ban Pae subdistrict, Khu Muang district that has been affected by flooding homes, rice fields and the entrance road to the village that must be traveling by boat.

Updated, the paddy fields that been flooded more than two weeks began to rotten and smelly unable to be harvested.

From the impacted results as described above, the farmers has insist to government or government agencies involved to support the water pump machine and to provide the rice varieties to distribute to the farmers for making off-season rice to replace the rice fields that has been flooded which there are more than 600 rais completely damaged, from the area of rice cultivation the whole village of more than 1,000 rais.

About the compensation that the government will give to the farmers:

2,098 baht per rai for the flooded rice fields will not be enough help to the farmers because the farmers have an average investment 3,000-5,000 baht per rai and mostly have debt by borrowing money from Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and also debt outside system to invest in agriculture.

Teenage motorcycle theft gang caught by Buriram police.

At the front of investigation room of Buriram police station, the police held a press conference to announce the arrest of 11 boys aged between 16 and 19 years old including the stolen property are 16 motorbikes and 1 computer.

In the investigation, the suspects has confessed that have jointly set up the gang to patrol steal the motorbikes, computer, cash or other valuable property which able to grab along in homes, dormitories in various communities of Buriram municipality area.

The stolen motorbikes were sold to a teenage group and shop in Krasang district and Chamni district for 2,000-3,000 baht per Motorbike and some of the motorbikes were sold in spare parts to friends.

More than 2160 cases of diarrhea patients has been found during the floods in Buriram province.

After many areas in the districts of Buriram province have been experiencing flooded in homes, agricultural lands and several roads, during October 11th 2010 – November 9th 2010 which it’s for a period of almost a month. Resulted in people both childrens, adults and the elderly in the flood area were effected by diarrhea.

It has been reported that in various hospitals of Buriram province there are more than 2,160 cases of diarrhea patients has been to the hospital for the treatment.

In addition it has found also the following information:

1,007 cases of people who were sick for unknown reasons.

741 patients of conjunctivitis (Eye inflection).

141 patients of Dengue disease.

103 patients of Leptospirosis.

(also known as Weil’s disease, Weil’s syndrome, canicola fever, canefield fever, nanukayami fever, 7-day fever, Rat Catcher’s Yellows, Fort Bragg fever, and Pretibial fever).

Which the most likely cause due into the water and soak for a long time, especially the farmers who harvest in flooded paddy fields.

Buriram province has prepared job vacancies to assist farmers that their paddy fields damaged by the flooded.

Employment Office has prepared the job vacancies and vocational training to assist farmers who have been affected by the floods that damaged homes and paddy fields in the area of 18 districts by providing more than 1,000 job vacancies to accommodate inside province and many thousands job vacancies outside the province to help people who have been suffered to have a job to alleviate the hardship.

First pair of Thai flamingo species arrived Buriram province.

“Nakhon Ratchasima Zoological Park Organization” has brought a pair of Thai flamingo to “the temporarily protection forests area” at Ban Huai Sang Nue, Sa Kae Phrong subdistrict, Muang district, Buriram province for an experiment to culture propagation to be released back to nature.

The flamingos are male and female aged 4 years old which it’s an endangered wildlife reserves and Buriram province is the first province of Thailand for breeding of “Thai flamingo species”. Which it’s the wetlands of one in six provinces across the country with an area of more than 3,000 rai that has been selected by the research group.

Floods and cold weather affected the price of chillies and vegetables has been increased.

Floods has impacted the price of vegetables has been increased.

Especially the price of chillies which the original price is 50-60 baht per kilogram and the current price is 110-120 baht per kilogram.

Kale, Coriander and Onion the averaged price has increased 5-10 baht per kilogram but the ‘morning glory’ vegetable price has been highly increased (record-breaking).

The current price is 30-35 baht per kilogram from the original price is 15-20 baht per kilogram.

Buriram province inviting everyone to experience with “cold weather”, “sunset” and “sea fog” at the viewpoint of Pha Daeng.

Buriram province invite tourists who love nature to experience with cold weather of the winter together with watching sunset and the beautiful natural of the vast forest that covered by the sea fog of “ban-thad” mountain and “Dong Yai” forest national reserve during winter and during high season at the viewpoint of Pha Daeng, located at Ban Nong Samet, Lam Nangrong subdistrict, Non Dindaeng district, Buriram province.

This area is a contact zone between Non Dindaeng district of Buriram province and Ta Praya district of Sa Kaew province and also a new attraction of Buriram province.

Minister of Transport has provided subvention to families of those who died from flooding.

At the auditorium of Satuek district, Mr.Sopon Zaram ( Minister of Transport ) has been a representative of government and provided the subvention to 6 families of those who died from flooding in Buriram province, viz 4 cases from Lamplaimat district, 1 case from Lahan Sai district and 1 case from Pakham district.

Each case is 50,000 Baht to heal and relieve suffering to the families of those who died from flooding as above.

In addition, the Transport minister has also provided 500 bags of relief supplies to the flood victims in 5 subdistricts of Satuek district, viz Thamuang subdistrict, Sakae subdistrict, Tung Wang subdistrict, Nikom subdistrict and Satuk subdistrict.

Buriram province have declared as a disaster area, affected by flooding in 1,278 villages of 130 sub-districts of 20 districts and 1,309 homes has been flooded and farmlands damaged of 246,343 rai and 46,582 households have been suffered.

Buriram province water levels began to decrease continuously.

The situation of water from Nakhon Ratchasima flowing into the mun river which resulted flooded in homes and paddy fields of farmers in 4 districts of buriram province in Phutthaisong district, Khu Muang district, Khaen Dong district and Satuk district.

Updated, the water level began to decrease continuously in a daily average of 5 cm to 10 cm for 3 consecutive days.

While the entrance road of 2 villages in Ban Wang Palad, Ban Pae subdistrict, Khu Muang district and Ban Plub, Sakae subdistrict, Satuek district are still flooded which the average height is 50 cm.

The paddy fields that has been flooding more than 1 week has begun damaged therefore the farmers urged the government to provide the assistance and accelerate to survey the damage and give the compensation to the farmers 3,000 baht per rai and allocation the rice varieties and fertilizer to farmers who been affected.

Buriram people has made kites for sale make income during winter season.

Villagers in Ban Gae and Ban Noi Non rang, Nong Waeng subdistrict, Banmaichaiyapot district, Buriram province has made kite for sale during the winter season to make income.

Those kites are made in the traditional local way and are being sold in both wholesale and retail prices.

This create an extra income to households up to more than 15,000 Baht a month, though it is only a short period of 3 months during October-December of every year.

However, this year it is expected that the weather will be cold until February which may result higher income for the villagers who are making kites for sale.

13 schools are still unable to open on schedule.

After the water from Nakhon Ratchasima has flowed into the mun river which caused flooding in 14 schools in 5 districts of Buriram province, viz 6 schools in Satuk district, 3 schools in Phutthaisong district, 2 schools in Khu Muang, 2 schools in Khaen Dong district and 1 school in Banmaichaiyapot district.

All of the flooded schools are closed, apart from one school that has opened on schedule but the other 13 schools are still unable to open because the flooding height level is 5 cm to 1 meter.

People at Prakhon Chai district has provide a bag of relief supplies to the flood victims in 3 districts of Buriram province.

The border patrol police 216 in conjunction with the merchants community and citizens in the municipality of Prakhon Chai district has provided a bag of relief supplies to the flood victims in Phutthaisong district, Khaen Dong district and Satuk district to alleviate hardship for the flood victims. The bag of relief supplies contains: Rice, Dry food, Drinking water of 500 set.

7 schools has declared holiday extension for one more week.

Schools in the regions of Phutthaisong district, Khu Muang district, Khaen Dong district, Banmaichaiyapot district and Satuk district Buriram province, which all 7 schools buildings has been flooded about 50 cm to 1 meter and the teaching equipment has been damaged, therefore the schools are unable to open on schedule and declared holiday extension for one more week.

However, if due a week of holiday the water level will not decrease, the school will declare holiday extension for one more week or until the water situation will be reduced to normal level.
